NEW WEBINARS
Overdose: Who’s Most at Risk and How to Help
Drug overdose deaths continue to rise in the United States, with nearly 500,000 lives lost since 1999 from opioid use alone. The deadly trend has especially dire implications for people of color who have been disproportionately impacted by the opioid epidemic. Join Hazelden Betty Ford clinical leaders Manuel Garcia and Lydia Burr to take a closer look at the symptoms and causes of drug overdose and examine statistics related to the disproportionate impact on people of color. You will gain insight into culturally appropriate, evidence-based approaches for working with underrepresented populations as well as clinical interventions to educate clients about the dangers associated with substances and overdose.
Advanced Approaches to the Opioid Epidemic
The emergence of nitazenes. The co-occurrence of opioid and stimulant use disorders. The proliferation of fentanyl-adulterated counterfeit pills. At every harrowing new turn, the evolving opioid epidemic presents added complexities and urgent clinical challenges. Data show the deadly reach of the epidemic imperils Americans of every demographic and walk of life. Join Hazelden Betty Ford’s chief medical officer, Alta DeRoo, MD, along with research scientist/clinical psychologist, Quyen Ngo, PhD, and pharmacist/trainer, Kerry Hettinger, PharmD, RPh to examine advanced treatment approaches, consider integrated risk reduction strategies and identify the most-effective overdose prevention measures.
Advancing Overdose Awareness and Prevention
International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), observed annually on August 31, represents the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose. Communities around the globe mark the day with events aimed at raising awareness about overdose, reducing the stigma of drug-related death and advancing evidence-based strategies and practices such as the use of naloxone. Join pharmacist, trainer and technical consultant Kerry Hettinger, PharmD, RPh, and psychiatrist Stephen Delisi, MD, to review the history and use of naloxone to reverse the effects of opioid overdose and discuss the vital role all members of the healthcare team can play in increasing awareness and availability of this lifesaving medication.
