The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is excited to collaborate with Mobilize Recovery Day of Service to celebrate recovery successes and bring people around the world together to participate in service events on International Recovery Day, Sept. 30, 2023. And we want you to get involved!

Day of Service is a national movement that harnesses the power of the worldwide recovery community — allies, advocates and members — to enact service projects as a tangible way to lift one another up, inspire civic engagement and give back to the broader community. Together, we can make a difference. The day coincides with International Recovery Day and National Recovery Month and is supported by many vocal substance use and mental health recovery advocates including Macklemore, Charlamagne tha God, Danny Trejo, Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, Royce da 5’9” and Melissa Etheridge.

St. Paul Service Event

To celebrate International Recovery Day and the first-ever ‘Day of Service,’ the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation — in coordination with Mobilize Recovery and planning partner Bold North Recovery — is hosting a sure-to-be-rockin’ Sober Tailgate Party in St. Paul that will double as an opportunity to make a lifechanging impact for veteran and active military families.

Joining us will be guests from the Minnesota Vikings, Wild, Lynx and Timberwolves as well as friends and collaborators from Semper Fi Flo, United Heroes League, CVS Health and other organizations doing great work throughout the community.

Participants can look forward to lively music; delicious food and refreshments; fun games and activities; community resource tables; and connecting with friends old and new. In addition, they’ll have the opportunity to stop by “Day of Service” booths and do something special for military families, such as write a letter or assemble a care package.

Mobilize Recovery founder Ryan Hampton speaks at Hazelden Betty Ford’s first Sober Tailgate Party in 2022. The 2023 event will be on September 30 and feature service opportunities to benefit military personnel, veterans and their families.

Other Ways to Get Involved

Head to recoverydayofservice.org to sign up for other service events or to host your own!

Events should be tailored to your neighborhood/community — but they don’t have to specifically benefit the recovery community. Example events are:

  1. Pick up trash at a park.
  2. Volunteer at a food bank.
  3. Host a donation drop-off site.

Mobilize Recovery wants everyone to be involved in a way that makes sense. Events can be small (think: five friends cleaning up their local park) or large (think: the Sober Tailgate Party in St. Paul or partnering with a senior living center to lead enrichment activities for a day). Events can be open to the public or limited to a private group.

Join us in this movement to harness the power of the substance use and mental health recovery community to create a better world on this unified day of service. Together, we can celebrate recovery successes and uplift communities!
